Who or What is the Cause of Decline? Not You, Of Course!
It’ was last week, Saturday evening. A flight from Bangalore to Delhi. We were flying Indigo.
We’ve been customers for Indigo for as long as it has been there. Seen several managers come and go, seen hundreds of customer reps come and go.
Yes, its a list and you have seen plenty like this I assume.
I am not very keen on the word ‘winner’ - I think the concept and idea of winning is overrated, overused, over abused and has roots primarily in winning relatively. That is winning or performing better than someone else.
CEOs are Idiots Because...
I was in Dubai recently. In a few sticky situations. I am generally polite. Yet, in a stuck situations, I met a lot of common sense defying people. It was frustrating.
On the way back, I began thinking of common sense defying stuff that we do.
If you are looking to survive and be moderately successful, this is not for you, you are fine the way you are. If you are looking to breakthrough the convention and do something spectacular, this list of (non)wisdom is certainly for you.
The Doomed Indian
Bharath Bandh in the name of Petrol Price hike.
Why - Apparently the petrol price hurts the common man.
I have been privy to the middle class Indian lambasting the government and the policy to hike petrol on all the social media.
Lets get a few facts straight before we move on to the larger problem..
RIP Pratap Rokkam
There are lessons to be learnt from this man. He is no more with us but I think you’ll find great value in what he left.
My last conversation with Pratap a couple of months back was talking about her daughter.
Seven years ago, very reluctantly I accepted Pratap being a part of a coaching assignment. I was reluctant because Pratap was fixed in his mindset, strong headed, very traditional in his values and beliefs and I didn’t think I’ll be able to do anything.
Pratap surprised me
This April, three people I met have stayed in my memory and prompted me to simplify ‘breakthroughs’.
First a highly successful man who is probably worth more than the net-worth of my entire client base combined - But this person considers himself unlucky and unsuccessful.
Ignore Your Mother. Ignore Your Father.
On a memory lane, three incidents occurred to me this morning.
The 1st one.
I was seven. I don’t remember exactly how, but I had found my way outside the house into this second hand Ambassador that my Dad had just bought.
Sachin Tendulkar in his recent press conference made a brilliant statement. He said that when you’re on top of your game then retiring at that moment is selfish because that is the time that you better be serving your nation.
8 Things to Think This Year
Why are people sending me New Year Greetings, “the most sincere wishes from the bottom of my heart” and then asking me to buy their stuff in the same mail?
This IS (or should be) Management:
Get Over The Theories Of Management and Leadership that someone at Harvard wrote in ‘50’s and every other B-School (Abbreviation BS) derived their curriculum from it.
Take A Leap Of Faith
There are many times in life that we reach a chasm. We find ourselves at the edge. The edge separates itself from the other side with a gap. We know we want to be on the other side. We can see it.
The Get Lucky List
If you are the planning types and believe meticulous and orderly plans are the only way forward and luck is just a by product, then by all means keep at it...
Have a little fun. Get lucky. Try these strategies..

You should get settled in life. Study hard so you can get a good degree.
